Champion Door's Ongoing Sustainability Drive: From Solar Energy to 100% Recyclable Waste

Champion Door systematically conducts measures to improve the sustainability of its operations across all operational areas – including production, facilities, products, people and the local community. One of Champion Door’s most significant recent investments is the acquirement of solar panels.
The 130 solar panels now soaking up the sun on Champion Door’s roof will generate more than 43 MWh of electricity a year – equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of about 3 Finnish detached houses. During the summer, the produced solar energy will cover more than a third of the factory’s energy consumption. The amount of CO2 emissions saved annually will total at 4,9 tons – equivalent to 225 planted trees.
“We have been planning our solar panel acquisition for several years with the goal of advancing the green transition and reducing the share of purchased electricity in our overall consumption. Since becoming operational in early September, the panels have met our performance expectations, and we are pleased with the results so far”, says Quality Manager Reijo Ojanperä.
All Waste 100 % Recyclable
Champion Door has implemented extensive measures to promote sustainability in their production. Their facilities now feature eco-friendly LED lighting, and the company has significantly reduced its use of packaging materials, particularly plastic. Champion Door has also agreed upon optimizing packaging and reducing packaging materials with suppliers. All of the company’s waste– including aluminum and steel – is recyclable.
“We are happy to report to have substantially decreased our waste generation. By investing in recycling containers and waste compactors, we have reduced the need for waste collection and reached a 100 % recyclability with the waste we produce”, says Production and Purchasing Manager Anne Tölli.
In manufacturing, Champion Door is already using recycled materials. Future development steps include increasing the use of recycled materials as well as monitoring and measuring the company’s carbon footprint.
“We are off to a strong start and are committed to continuously improving the sustainability of our practices moving forward”, Tölli continues.
Supporting Employees and the Local Community
While Champion Door’s products already promote energy efficiency through qualities such as excellent insulation, the company has elevated this further by introducing a remote door management and maintenance system. The CD Cloud system allows for remote troubleshooting and door management while giving local maintenance partners more operational capabilities, securing the door’s optimal performance and reducing the need for travel.
As a company that is global in operations but local at heart, Champion Door invests in being an integral part of their local community in Nivala, Finland. By sponsoring and supporting several local sports and recreational activities, Champion Door hopes to increase the appeal of the area and the well-being of its residents. Champion Door supports workplace well-being by offering employees competitive benefits, such as sports opportunities, and support the balance between work life and personal life by having a flexible attitude towards personal engagements, education and remote work.
