An anti-burglar fabric is utilized for enhanced security, while a translucent fabric permits 48% light transmission. Additionally, windows can be included as an optional feature.
A fabric door is insulated differently from a steel sectional door, and the difference shows as soon as the hall is heated or cooled. The questions below cover what is included as standard, what is specified as an option, and what insulation changes in daily use.
Is an industrial fabric door thermally insulated as standard?
Thermal insulation is a fabric option, not a standard feature. It is specified when the building is heated or cooled, and it is the option most of our industrial customers choose. Including it in the original order is considerably cheaper than retrofitting it later, so it is worth deciding at the quotation stage.
What U-value does an insulated door reach?
The insulated door leaf reaches a U-value of 0.70 W/m²K, and 0.57 W/m²K with additional insulation. The seal around the leaf matters as much as the leaf itself: every anodized aluminium side rail carries thick brushes on both sides, and wide weather pads on the internal edges of the fabric press against the rails so that no gaps are left for wind to drive through. Across a large opening, air leakage around a door usually costs more than heat transmission through it.
How cold, or how hot, can the door work in?
The standard fabric is rated from +70 °C to −35 °C, with best functionality down to −35 °C. For arctic sites an arctic fabric extends this to −60 °C. Insulation works in the other direction too: in a cooled hall, insulated fabric helps hold the indoor temperature and reduces the cooling load. For high-temperature environments a silicone fabric resistant to molten metal splashes is available.
Does an insulated door reduce condensation and freezing?
Yes. The inner surface of an insulated leaf stays closer to the indoor temperature, so condensation on the fabric is reduced. There is also no floor rail in which meltwater can refreeze and jam the door — the leaf folds straight up, clear of the opening, so nothing in the doorway collects snow or ice.
What other fabric options can be specified at the same time?
Sound reduction and acoustic insulation, anti-static fabric for ATEX areas, burglar protection to RC 3 under EN 1627, windows and vision panels, insect screen, rubber protection for sandblasting workshops, and translucent fabric that transmits 48 % of light.
